Want to tap into the power of your intuition? I know a lot of you are working on harnessing its power, so this post will provide guidance and support for your journey. By sharing my story, I hope you feel empowered to listen to and create your own magic.
Your Intuition is Calling
Last week I followed my intuition and hopped on a last minute flight to New York City. The trip didn’t make logical sense: I just took a lot of time off for my Philippines trip, New York is unbelievably expensive, and if I’m going to the east coast, I should focus the trip on Maryland where my family and majority of my friends live. But something in my gut kept telling me to go. Everyone told me the trip didn’t make sense. There were a zillion and one reasons not to go. So many obstacles and so much resistance.
But I went. I listened to my intuition and didn’t let anything stand in my way. And I was rewarded with profound connection, expansion, and soul growth.
If you listen, your intuition will lovingly guide you to exactly what your soul needs.
Why NYC?
A little bit of background: Eric has been traveling to New York a fair amount for work, and I keep saying that one of these times, I’m gonna tag along. I adore the city. It’s a shy extrovert’s paradise (read more about that here). I can scamper around the city for hours and hours, taking in all the energy and the beautiful blend of humans speeding by. I get so much inspiration from people watching and taking in all the sights.
Fashion, good food, and beautiful architecture feed my soul, and New York is a mecca. I could spend years exploring every little boutique, ethnic restaurant, and historic facade.
But the real reason I wanted to go is much more personal. Much closer to my heart. Fashion, food and buildings are great, but it’s nothing compared deep soul connection. One of my most beloved friends, Charlotte, lives outside of New York, and my heart was begging to see her.
Reconnecting to My Past
Charlotte and I were roommates all four years of college. We were randomly placed together freshman year, and then happily chose to live together each year after. We even roomed together in Spain, living with our little host madre and cavorting all over Europe. We grew up together. We stumbled, fumbled, and laughed our way through college side by side.
Now she has two babies and my heart knew I had to go be with her little family. Even though the timing didn’t make sense. Even though the flight was expensive. Even though it was last minute.
From the second Charlotte picked me up from the airport, my soul felt supremely content and at ease. We snuggled with her babies in our PJs, chatted into the wee hours, and laughed so hard we cried looking through old photo albums (man, we used to be fun!).
Go With the Flow
It felt effortless. So natural. So right. Lately I’ve been trying to push everything, to control it, to mold it. But something in my gut told me to just let this trip flow. Don’t overplan, don’t overanalyze. Just show up and the rest will unfold. I used to be so laid back, so trusting. Since those college days way back when, I seem to have lost some of my faith. I’ve hardened and forgotten the fundamental truth that the universe has got my back.
Deep down, my soul knows everything will always be ok. Life is happening for me, not to me. This trip was a beautiful reminder.
Surround yourself with good people, trust your intuition, and keep your heart open to receive deep love and connection.
After seeing Charlotte, I got to see my parents, who drove 6 hours each way to hang out with Eric and me in Brooklyn. They drove 12 hours in one day just to meet us for dinner. How lucky am I? What a beautiful reminder that sometimes you have to do things that seem impractical for the ones you love. Going out of your way to connect deeply is always worth it.
Making Magic
In both of these experiences, with Charlotte and my parents, time completely slowed down. I only spent a day and a half with Charlotte and her lovely family, and it felt like two months. I spent a few hours with my parents, and it felt like a few weeks. When everyone shows up in a state of being deeply ready and open to connect, magic happens. There’s no time for small talk, and there’s no need. You dive right into each other headfirst, reckless and open. No need to force anything or be anything. You just are, and everything just is.
In a Nutshell
- Follow your intuition
- Be open
- Show up fully
- Time will slow down when you dive in
- Don’t overthink, just be
- Let the universe lead
- Enjoy life’s crazy timing
- Let it flow
I’m feeling so magical and connected and intuitive right now. I think the universe rewards us when we listen to our souls. When we enter a state of flow, the magic and goodness just keeps on flowing. When we work through and unblock old limitations, we create more space for new light to enter. Listening to and following your intuition is the vehicle to so much magic.
Amazing, Susan! What a good life lesson and reminder for all of us. I also liked how you summarized the key suggestions.
I LOVE this!!!!!
Wow, i love that you shared this experience with us. I’m glad that you did not take it for granted, as if it was just luck, or good timiing.
You made this happen for yourself. You took a chance. You opened yourself up for receiving… and in doing so… you gave of yourself to others. If I were Char or your mother, I would be open to the gift of Making Magic. And it sounds like they were indeed grateful to your offering.
